Yeltsin Center

Transition of Power

Permanent Exhibit

In 1999, in his traditional New Year’s address to the nation, Boris Yeltsin announced that he had decided to step down as president of Russia several months earlier than his term was due to expire. Vladimir Putin, the acting Prime Minister, became the new president. Drawing on Yeltsin’s public speeches and memoirs, we designed and produced a complex media installation that immerses visitors of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center in Yekaterinburg into the rationale behind Yeltsin’s historic decision.
