Our Work
Labyrinth of Soviet History at Yeltsin Center
CLIENT: Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center|COMPLETED: November 2016

Challenge:

Provide Yeltsin Center visitors with an overview of official Soviet history through Soviet propaganda movies.

Result:

Drawing from over 50 films made during the Soviet years, Lorem Ipsum created an audiovisual collage that prepares museum visitors for an understanding of the main exposition dedicated to the history of the first post-Soviet decade.

Tasked with providing a comprehensive overview of Soviet history — from the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 to the last days of the Soviet empire — as it was portrayed in Soviet cinema, Lorem Ipsum curated 52 films that provide visitors with an in-depth look into all aspects of life in the USSR. Broken into eleven distinct chapters, Soviet history is told through eleven montage sequences that immerse viewers into the atmosphere of each period.

Plated into artifacts and other visual references, the montages serve as the main narrative element of the exhibit.

Each montage is projected onto a glass wall that separates the chapters but propels the visitor to the next section.
